After completing the reading about Web 2.0, I understand the term to mean tools that enable the user to not only extract information from the world wide web, but to also be able to share, publish and collaborate with others. This can be done through facebook, twitter, flickr, wikis, blogs and nings, shelfari, delicious diigo, and video-sharing sites such as youtube and teachertube.
This is an exciting stage in information management because the individual can now be empowered to have a voice and publish their views with others. It also enables the user to benefit from hearing from a wide range of people from all over the world.
These tools can be accessed not just from a desktop but from one's iphone, ipad or other electronic device such as a Telstra T-Hub.
This development has led to other new terms such as Library 2.0. This term means providing a library service that is user centred and "...encourages user participation and feedbak in the development and maintenance of library services." (www.wikipedia.org/wiki/library_2.0)
